Ker (asker): 10:13pm Jun 7, 2007: It is part of a specification for a computer (CPU module) to control an industrial autoclave. I had thought of 'key information transfer' but I'm not convinced.

"data words" or "information words" would be fairly idiomatic for this field; "data-bearing words" would be more literal.
