French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks
French term or phrase: basculement
"méthode de basculement validée" "installation de la machine back up et tests de basculement". - My browsing has not resulted in any answer that makes sense, unless "turnover" or "tipping" really enters the equation (in which case I still would not quite understand the meaning in context). - Thanks in advance for your ideas.

vera-tech: 10:54am Jul 10, 2007: Did you erase my explanation???
SwissTell: 11:05am Jul 10, 2007: vera-tech. I certainly did not do so intentionally, if at all. Sorry. You have all been so helpful! -

failover
Automatically switching to a redundant or standby server, system, upon the failure or abnormal termination of the currently-active server, system. Failover happens without human intervention. -> the why for tests!
SwissTell: 1:02pm Jul 10, 2007: vera-tech: thanks a great deal for the extra effort (repeat)! -

switchover or failover
Explanation:
Former if done "manually", latter if automated

If you google basculement + switchover, you will see bilingual hits from reasonably authortitive sources e.g. DataGuard
Equally, google basculement +failover also provides decent hits

Also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switchover, which has a link to "failover".
