The following phrase appears in a document about what company X offers in the way of data/ID protection, counterfeit detection etc.

"L’entreprise a mis au point des **papiers intégralement tatoués** selon un procédé technique très pointu permettant l’identification des produits et garantissant leur origine (médicaments, pièces de rechange de sécurité…)."

I really can't understand what these "papiers intégralement tatoués" are. Any suggestions much appreciated.
