French term or phrase: gel de base (de données)
In a document about creation of a database and analysis of the results. From what I can understand, once the data has all be entered into the database, the database is 'locked' so that no further changes can be made but analysis can begin.

Is there a technical term for this 'gel de base'?

Below please find two examples of how the term is used in the document:

"Ces deux tâches vont permettre d'aboutir au gel de base (la base est considérée comme analysable)."

"Enfin, la préparation de l'analyse statistique commencera au cours de cette phase afin d'être en mesure de produire les résultats statistiques sitôt la base de donnée gelée."

Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks everyone for your input. Difficult to choose between freezing and locking but on the basis of your references and another look around on google, decided to go with freeze. Thanks very much...:-)

agree  Esther Lavedrine: Yes, definitely. Locked data is different from frozen data. The former is for data integrity and the latter is usually due to a process that is not responding.

agree  xxxBourth: A mere 19,400 ghits for "freeze the database" (so a backup can be made, etc.)
1 hr

agree  Martin Cassell: the contexts make clear that this is a "freeze" of the whole database to enable large-scale operations (here specifically statistical analysis), as opposed to locking individual elements to ensure the integrity of transactions

-> Please see the ref. I have added: they "freeze" the database to do a backup, and then they "thaw" it.
