The "slot" is actually the PCI connector on the motherboard, which is one standard size -- but by extension, the word is also applied to the corresponding opening in the case (covered by the bracket, at a right angle to the motherboard). The two different bracket sizes here are full-size (107 mm high) and low-profile (79.2 mm high). The maker of the network card supplies two brackets so that the user can attach whichever fits the case to the printed-circuit board of the expansion card.
