neutral  Sheila Wilson: I agree with Bourth that you can't prevent risks, you can only manage them so that the effects (ie incidents) are minimised, hopefully to zero

Accident prevention programme

Explanation:
I think you might have to adapt it depending on the precise context and risks. (workplace safety etc).

I get the feeling that a word for word literal translation is slightly translationese as a search on google throws up translations.

The plant's accident prevention program has been recognized by the Calhoun County Calhoun County is the name of several counties in the United States of America, mostly named after Senator John C. Calhoun:

neutral  juliebarba: Risks aren't always accidents, risks could relate to the weather, intruders etc - all sorts of risks \ "risk/s" is standard language for risk managment and risk insurance
1 min
-> That's why I said you need to adapt it to the situation.. what sounds more English?

agree  xxxBourth: See my comments on "risk prevention" below. From what Asker says, this is about accidents (and incidents, if we're splitting hairs).
1 hr
  -> Thanks Bourth

neutral  B D Finch: Risk is not synonymous with accident. One could risk delay, breach of regulations or extra cost, but as Bourth noticed, this is is about potential hazards.
11 hrs
-> Not synonymous I agree -my point is more one of the Engish-speaking mindset, visualising the consequences whereas maybe the French prefer to talk in more abstract terms.

I'm not sure one can prevent a risk. Sure, you can prevent a risk eventuating, but the risk is still there, has not been prevented (from existing), just managed.

"risk prevention plan" certainly gets some ghits, but mostly "continental" it seems to me.

"Risk PROTECTION plan" (you protect yourself against risks) is another, less "administrative" option.

agree  Sheila Wilson: Many French organisations use the English term, too

agree  B D Finch: Absolutely right, you can only minimise risks; but should we, as translators, correct the source document's faulty philosophy?

-> That's like saying that we translators should not translate "grand singes" as "apes", but as "big monkeys"! The simple fact is, that's what the French say.
