French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
French term or phrase: phase d'élaboration
Context: scope of health and safety assignment on a construction site:

Cette mission concerne la phase de conception, d'étude et *d'élaboration* du projet ainsi que la phase de réalisation de l'ouvrage

The problem is that in English 'conception', 'étude' and 'élaboration' are often all three translated as 'design'.

I've come up with:
This assignment concerns the schematic design, design and *prepapartory* phases of the project as well as the execution phase of the works.

Explanation:
"Elaboration" can be tricky. My pot of strawberry jam is "élaboré", but here "design, analysis and development" should cover it.

-> Yes, but who knows what they do to get from plant to pot...? No doubt something very, er, elaborate, in the um, elaboratory.

agree  David Hayes: Elderberry jam is unusual enough be considered as something one elaborates. A 'phase' is more mundane and is simply developed.
