French term or phrase: dans le prolonguement de celles de l'escalateur
Technical description of an elevator in technical specifications

"Installation de mains-courantes inox fixes de part et d'autre et aux
extrémités de l'escalator d'une longueur d'au moins 90cm et dans le
prolongement de celles de l'escalator"

Not sure I fully understand the meaning of the whole sentence hear and what "prolonguement de celles de l'escalateur" refers to (extrémités?). Your help will be much appreciated!

continuing the line of the escalator hand
Explanation:
The hand rails are to be fitted in continuation (for a minimum of 90 cm) of the line of the escalator handrails. People are probably most likely to fall getting on and off an escalator, so a fixed handrail at the end of the escalator would give something to help people not to fall. Also, the extension rails stop other people crossing in front of the access to the escalator, where they might block the passage of people leaving the escalator and so cause accidents.

That was meant to be "continuing the line of the escalator handrail, but "rail" got chopped off. Also correction of my first mention above: "handrail" is one word.
