French to English translations [PRO] Marketing - Cosmetics, Beauty / Marketing - opening of new perfume/jewellery shop | | French term or phrase: la centrale Saint Marc 227/228 | Text:
OUVERTURE DU CONCEPT STORE A VENISE
Reminiscence ouvre son premier point de vente monomarque en Italie à Venise dans la centrale Saint Marc 227/228. La nouvelle boutique de 45 mètres carrés, fidèle à l‘esprit hippy chic de la marque, transmet les valeurs et les couleurs de la Maison.
I have a problem with the translation of 'centrale' - any ideas welcome. Thank you. |

| | San Marco (quarter) 227-228, located at Saint Marc's square | Explanation: Venice is divided in areas or quarters (sestiere), among which San Marco, around the square with the same name, but much bigger than the square itself. The houses are all numbered within the sestiere and street names exist but are not used, only to refer to within the city. Postmen just go per area.
As far as I can see, nr 227-228 is on the corner under the bell tower with the two hammerers across the great museum and at the broad end of the square next to the basilica. Though I can't seem to find any definite numberings and Google earth is not always right when it comes to Venice. You shoul really consult a proper guide with house numbers.
For that reason, you can't really put on 'Saint Mark's Square' as you do not know for sure whether it is there. It's a bit tricky, but I would prefer to put the address on properly and then the street name, if you wish. And I think, if I am right about the ocation, 'place' is missing too in the French text.
It is not exactly a prime location, but at that end, including on the left side from the basilica there are quite a lot of art shops with glass and other kinds of stuff. This company would better have sought a shop somewhere else near the Cartier shop towards Rialto, but that's my own opinion. That seems to be the design quarter rather than the tourist quarter.

So, looked and looked for a map with house numbers (could have called my father but that takes too long; he is namely an absolute empassioned visitor of Venice and has a big street atlas). I found this map: http://maps.venicexplorer.net/venice-mapquest/index.php?hlan...
Which confirms that it is in district San Marco, but not at St Mark's Square itself, although in the street under the tower like I said, but a bit further back than Google Earth implied.
So, the address, in order to accomodate your readers on the website of Reminiscence, should read: San Marco 227/228 (Marzaria de l'Orgloggio), ... If you want to help your customer, you'll put the Marzaria de l'Orloggio down as its location to avoid people looking all around St Mark's Square for it never to find it. Because it's actually quite far into the street as yoo can see on the map.
