Social Sciences - Economics | | French term or phrase: pic de patrimoine | The full sentence is:
"Les dépenses de consommation courante chutent relativement vite après un pic qui suit tout de suite l'entrée dans la pension (pic de patrimoine)".
It is taken from a report on consumer spending among an ageing population to be presented to the European Parliament. I believe the author was Belgian.
This is my attempt:
"After a peak which immediately follows entry into retirement (assets peak), habitual consumer spending falls relatively quickly".
I would be very grateful for any suggestions regarding "pic de patrimoine".

I think they mean that right after retirement the retiree's assets are at their maximum value. You could shorten it if you want to for brevity to something like "assets at maimum value".
Also, "consommation courante" is usually translated "regular consumption'. It's the same thing as habitual consumption, but that is the wording that is usually used in economics. See the dictionnaire.reverso.net entry for "consommation courante":

I should add, that 'consumer' spending' is the same as consumption, but in economics, 'consumer spending' is usually used to refer to consumer spending in the aggregate, where 'regular consumption' would be more common in this context. |
