French term or phrase: ajourné
Under "Résultats" on French university student's transcript.

"Ajourné," as opposed to "Admis."

Does this mean the student has an "incomplete," or that he "dropped" the course? Or simply that the course was "adjourned?"

Mille Mercis!

referred

Explanation:
I quote the following from earlier Proz-kudoz:
"A candidate who has failed to fulfill the requirements given in Section 8.1 shall be referred in that examination. A referred candidate shall sit for failed course/s (all ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades) and pass those courses subject to relevant restrictions given in Section 12."

agree  Iqbal Bootwalla: ajourne by itself means adjouned (deferred, postponed to a later date), which is probably the next term/semester in this case

fail

Explanation:
Admis versus ajourné
means
pass versus fail

"ajourné définitivement" means that you cannot resit the year.

See this explanation, adapted from the website given below:

agree  sueaberwoman: Or allowed to take the course over; French higher education allows students two attempts to pass most courses, organizing a "session de rattrapage" (as you explain); if stu fails 2x, the crse must be taken again in full."Ajourné" is used in both cases.
