French to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Education / Pedagogy / C.V. qualifications | | French term or phrase: candidatures en droit | | This person has a premiere candidature en droit, then a deuxieme candidature en droit, then a premiere licence en droit, then a deuxieme licence en droit, followed by a troisieme licence en droit and finally a D.E.S. in Human Rights. I'm not sure of the way law is studied (in this case in Belgium) or what candidatures en droit signifies. Can anyone help?! |

| | two-year university study cycle in law | Explanation: The Université de Louvain's English pages describe it this way:
After the first two-year university study cycle ("candidature"), the "licence" programme in Law has a three-fold objective. It aims, firstly, at further improving the understanding by the future jurist of the technical aspects of different branches of Law : Economic and Social Law, Private Law, Public Law, International Law and Criminal Law. These courses should equip the student with the knowledge he/she shall require in the legal profession.

| Reference: Namur University
Reference information: It would seem that candidature is a 2-year course, leading to the Bachelier which is the 3-year degree. Rather like the old DEUG and licence in France.
