Bureau d'études 2/ Design office internship

Dans les cours données dans les école d'ingénieurs, on voit souvent apparaître le cours "Bureau d'études". Est ce que quelqu'un peut me dire ce que cela veut dire ? Qu'est ce qu'un bureau d'étude en l'occurence ?

Un bureau d'études et une unité situé généralement dans une entreprise qui va concevoir ou créer un produit. Le role du bureau d'études est :
de faire un produit le plus performant possible. le moins couteux possible, le plus fiable, qui réponde au réglementation, c'est à dire avec ces différents documents tel que maintenance limite d'emploi, notice de montage et d'utilisation descriptif de fonctionnement!
Bref un bureau d'études invente un produit par rapport à un chier des charges.

Asker: Brilliant, Claire. You are right because I have just noticed that "Bureau d'Etudes" appears in another file relating to the student's summary of marks. In UK English, do you believe that "internship" is nowadays widely understood as "work placement"? Many thanks, Chris.
