French term or phrase: devenir des docteurs
This is a heading in a list of PhD students. Preceeding titles are '
Supervision of theses
Theses supported
Theses with viva planned in 2011
Current theses

Each heading is followed by a list of names (presumably students).

Logic tells me that 'Devenir des docteurs' should be something like 'Doctorates to be awarded- but I wondered if there was a specific phrase.

Thank you

Doctoral Candidates

Explanation:
From your description, this is the title to a list of students who are aspiring to receive Doctoral Degrees. Since this degree has not yet been awarded they may be considered as "candidates" for that title.

Explanation:
Or "doctoral placements." That is, positions held after the doctoral degree was awarded.

My answer runs counter to your thinking (and all the answers so far), so I've only given it medium confidence, but still I wonder...

If you like the other term, you can google "doctoral graduate placements." Seek and ye shall find. ;-)
