I've done two mémoires in France, one for a masters and one for a DU, both with a soutenance, absolutely standard in France.
In the UK, my law degree mémoire was called a dissertation and the extremely unusual thing of having a viva voce at the time, landed on me!
When you get to doctorate level in France, it is generally a "thèse". However, doctors do "diplômes universitaire", DU or DIU, and they often (always?) have a "memoire". I have not heard "mémoire" used for a doctorate level here. |
