French term or phrase: diplome du baccalauréat général
I know what it is, but what I would like is a thoughtful suggestion on how to render it, seeing as it is for a European market I presume, so can't be too specific in UK or US English. How close to the original should I keep it? Obviously equivalence is a problem. Any thoughts?

General Secondary School Leaving Certificate
Explanation:
For a general English speaking audience in Europe I would opt for the above. If the audience is familiar with 'le bac' then perhaps go straight for General Baccalaureate Diploma.

This was very difficult to decide on, but a decision had to be made. I thought "genral secondary school certificate" would suffice, but then I realised it sounded to much like "GCSE" and that would give the wrong message to the reader. So in the end I decided to keep the word "baccalaureat" in and hope that the reader has a basic knowledge of the term.

diplome du baccalauréat général
International Baccalaureate diploma

Explanation:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is an internationally recognized curriculum that offers 11th and 12th grade students an opportunity to earn the IB diploma. The program is offered in over 1300 public and private secondary schools in more than 115 countries. To earn the IB diploma, students complete and test in six IB subjects; write an extended essay of independent research guided by a faculty mentor, complete 150 hours of creative, action, and service activities (CAS); and participate in a critical thinking course called Theory of Knowledge.
I've never heard of the International Baccalaureate before. Is it an organization?

The International Baccalaureate Program is governed by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and administered by the International Baccalaureate Curriculum and Assessment Center in Cardiff, Wales. The organization originated nearly forty years ago in Europe as an effort by international schools to assure quality educational standards for students, regardless of where they lived.
