… but it might help to explain how 'ondulée' comes to mean 'backed-up' in French. The colloquial term for an uninterruptible power supply (a.k.a. battery backup in an IT context) is 'onduleur', which actually refers to the inverter that converts DC to AC. Of course, an inverter is no use at all if there is no source of DC (charged battery), so the usage is already rather elliptical.
This is why the writer put "ondulée" in quotes. 'Courant ondulé' does mean ripple current. |
