I don't believe "bac" means a tank here, though it could be referring to a pcb right at the bottom of the "armoire". Any suggestions would be welcome!

(rack) backplane board
Explanation:
Did you check the glossary, Chris? We've had various versions of 'bac' and 'fond de panier' etc., and I've a feeling there might be other terms suggested that could help you.

My understanding (if ti fits your context) is that the 'bac' here = 'panier' and refers to a rack or card-frame into whcih PCBs are slotted, and the 'fond' refers to the backplane.

In fact, just 'backplane' on its own may well be all you need here. Or 'backplane PCB', perhaps — all depends on what your docuemnt is saying about it.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, I did check the glossary, but obviously not well enough, finding only "case bottom". Having had a senior moment, I just couldn't remember the term for "backplane", but that is, of course, what it is! Two heads are definitely better than one....

PCB rack

Explanation:
This is the PCB rack, which has the relevant slots as per the circuit, which is prevalent in all electronic equipments, providing a place to fit each PCB in place.
