French term or phrase: Les energies du terroir
I am translating a report for a British energy company into French and I came across this expression which is part of the sentence (les energies du terroir participeront a la richesse des territoires).
Would I be correct in translating it as Energy produced from the land

Le terroir also means the local area that the document is discussing. Les energies du terroir can mean the locally produced electricity from photovoltaic cells, hydro-electricity and wind-driven electricity which are produced locally and fed back into the grid.

territoires = refering to "regions", I presume

It should "will add to", as it's in the future tense.

participeront = will add to (you wouldn't use "participate" in English here)

The idea is that any home-grown energy project, as in Aquitaine, for example, will add to the richness of the region.

And thanks largely to them, Southern history and heritage are under attack. ... the South has always been the center of American culture and history and that ... that has stamped out the regional richness in other parts of the country. ...

It'd be understood here that "home-grown" refers to a specific region of the country, not the country itself.

I suppose you could say "regional home-grown energies ..." to be extra clear.

agree  xxxBourth: I like "home-grown energies too" but wonder if it might be more suitable for the subset of biomass energy ..., wind and hydro being locally produced but not "grown" sensu strictu .

  -> Thank you, Bourth! I don't know for sure. As you know very well, sometimes you shouldn't read too much into a term, and other times you better do so (lol). I suppose the Asker will have to figure that out.
