Explanation:
Well, I can't help you with the basic term 'puits à turbines' [turbine well / pit?], but I was just checking in to say that I assume you already know that the 'exciter' is a small (relatively speaking!) generator (alternator) that is started up first, in order to provide the excitation power needed for the really big generators.

agree Bourth: Yes: turbine pit. I guess they are referring to the "exciter turbine pit", i.e. the pit housing the turbine that drives the exciter, but the French seems like funny way of saying it.
