French term or phrase: balançage
The term occrus twice, in the phrases below. It is being mentioned in the context of improving work flow in the machine-shop, and apparently by using this facility, a significant time saving has been achieved. In the second example quoted, it seems almost as if they had to purchase this machine specially, or at least implement an additional functionality.

"balançage automatique sur fraiseuse 5 axes"

"fraiseuse 5 axes de grande capacité à balançage automatique"

I'm not sure whether they are talking about the transfer of parts on to and off of this machine (i.e. from/to some other machine), or some kind of re-positioning of the part being machined on the machine itself; I think it is unlikely that they mean literally 'balancing', as this is a milling machine rather than a lathe.

I have, however, come acorss one instance of 'balançage' being used to refer to the way the rough part is oriented in the milling machine for machining, but have not been able to confirm if the term 'balancing' is used for the equivalent operation in EN.

juliebarba: 10:41am Dec 28, 2007: don't know if this helps http://www.adelardsoucy.com/balancage_portative.html you have balancage + the fraiseuse. Seems in this link to be about the machines themselves....
Charles Hawtrey: 5:23pm Jan 2, 2008: I'm pretty much baffled too - but the source looks authoritative. I'd not have posted it otherwise! Hope the result is satisfactory.

Thanks a lot, Charles! I'm still not entirely clear what it actually means, but I'm fairly sure the term is usable, so that's what I've gone with.

Explanation:
I looked it up in the petit robert and found it was the same in english. I used an automatique bascule it worked by counter weight. It's just an idea, but I get the picture of something in that line, however not being an engineer myself I expect you guys may find an answer more approriate and I just thought bascule would help you along

Asker: Thanks, joobie, I appreciate your help; I don't think this applies in my particular context, though clearly it would in others.
