Mark Nathan (asker): 6:53pm Jan 5, 2005: I had been thinking coils; as Bourth says these obviously aren't electrical batteries. -

Explanation:
"Batteries" might do, at a pinch, but it must be realized that these are not batteries or accumulators in the sense of those things you put in your transistor radio!

"Batterie" refers to a set, a unit, a group of something:
<<Une batterie de radiateurs est un ensemble de radiateurs montés en série dans un même local>>
[Dicobat]
batterie d'ascenseurs = lift bank (set of lifts in the same location)
<<battery ... 2. Any group of two or more similar adjacent plumbing fixtures which discharge into a common horizontal waste or soil branch>>
[Dict. of Architecture & Construction, MCGHill]

However, in HVAC it is most commonly a coil.

batterie de bypass = run-around coil
batterie à air chaud = blast heater
batterie à air pulsé = blast coil
batterie à détente directe = direct expansion coil
batterie d'évporation = evaporation coil
batterie de plafond = ceiling coil
batterie de préchauffage = preheat coil
batterie froide sèche - drier coil
[The Int. Dict. of Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning, REHVA]

The Penguin Dict of Bldg gives:
coil (1) battery [I think that should read "coil (1), battery"] A curved pipe containing hot or cold flowing water, a heat exchanger from liquid to air, used in air conditioning as a hot coil for heating or a cold coil for cooling ...
Selected response from:

Note from asker to answerer
Yes, further research on the manufacturer's website reveals the batteries to be "batteries of coils", where the refrigerant condenses.

agree Bourth: But for the wrong reasons! Your example refers to a system for cooling electrical batteries, not the battery (coil) of a cooling system. Oh, I agree, batterie CAN be battery, but another term might be more appropriate.
