Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / public transport radio support systems

Could these 'etiquettes' be anything to do with 'radio-frequency identification tags' (as per GDT)... I'm fine with everything up to that point, which all makes perfect sense, but am not sure exactly what these 'etiquettes' are... would be grateful for suggestions. Thanks.

labels ?
Explanation:
I strongly suspect these might simply be labels! Either barcodes fitted to the roofs (etc.) of the trams, being read by ground-based readers; or maybe the reverse?

Sometimes this sort of system has been mooted for toll-collection on motorways etc., and for embarkation of cars on ferries.

The point being that a tram doesn't need GPS, since it only has a limited range of possibilites for getting lost! I would imagine it might just read the name off each stop as it passes, for example (as the Paris buses appear to do...)

labels with embedded readers

Explanation:
"embarqués" in this context is most likely "embedded" (i.e. built-in as part of something, in this case the étiquette). I've translated lots of text in which "logiciel embarqué" is "embedded software". Like the others I don't know why they are called étiquette. Does the rest of the text specify what they do? Again, possibly "tags" instead of "labels" if they are not permanently attached.
