I have translated this as 'cast-moulded silicone ring' but am wondering if this is correct. Does 'surmoulé' mean that the ring was moulded from a cast (or 'casting' - not sure what the correct term is). Sorry not to be able to offer further context than what is here.

I believe that said of car windscreens, "surmoulé" is "encapsulated". Can't guarantee the same is true in this case.

I think I am going to have to go with this answer, as it seems to be the most logical and feasible to me. And I think 'encapsulated' is a very logical translation of 'surmoule' if you break the term down and think about what it can actually mean in the context. Thanks to all contributors, very helpful stuff.

ring over-moulded with silicone

Explanation:
I have to give this low confidence, as I am far from sure of the actual term; but I AM fairly sure of the technique.

A ring made from moulded silicone would probably not be very strong.

Usually, 'surmoulé' means 'double-strike' moulding, i.e. the same piece is moulded twice, using (for example) 2 different coloured plastics.

However, here I suspect that it is more likely to be (e.g.) a metal ring that subsequently has a complete coating of silicone moulded over it.

Sorry I haven't got time now to do more research for you, but hopefully that may have put you on the right sort of track...
