Les résultats montrent de fortes variations des concentrations en DCO mais aussi en N/NTK. Par rapport aux résultats moyens et calculés par périodes, la concentration moyenne en azote représente pratiquement les **besoins de synthèse** de la biomasse. Cependant, quand il y a de faibles valeurs en NTK, des déficits peuvent être significatifs par rapport à ces **besoins de synthèse**.

This is taken from a study of an effluent treatment plant connected to a particular industrial concern. They are looking to see how they can stop the COD levels from being exceeded. (I am understanding N and NTK to be nitrogen and total Kjeldahl nitrogen).

I can only imagine that 'synthèse' in this context means synthetic substances...i.e. things that need to be added to the biomass (?). Am I barking up the right tree? (Or just barking mad?). Thanks in advance for guidance on this one.
