Is it referring to the vehicle access (e.g. some sort of gate system) or the type of vehicles coming in an out? I am sure someone out there will immediately know! I found 'bati tournant' in a Kudoz glossary and wondered if it were something similar...but can't quite picture it.

Well I never: drive-thru DIY. What an exciting world we live in! Moi, I'm just off to get a trailer-load of gravel from my old-fashioned builders' merchant....
Thanks for your contribution... and I must admit that some sort of rolling blind or shutter type affair crossed my mind at the time, but it didn't really fit the wider context as this was, I later discovered, a MAJOR investment by the store...and it turned out to be exactly what Bourth (wouldn't you just know it!) came up with - although somehow I had managed to unearth the idea from elsewhere in the meantime, after much research! So, it is a sort of, I suppose what we would call a 'DIY' (building supplies) drive-through (or 'thru' !)...and I don't even think there are any in the UK at the moment. Pretty good idea though, if you have to pick up bulky items and don't want to have to negotiate your way through the B&Q car park!
I couldn't be certain, but it sounds like the heavy-duty slatted rolling blinds you find at the back of supermarket depots into which articulated lorries reverse for unloading.
