You really haven't given us anything to go on! We are talking about copies of WHAT?

Making lots of assumptions, this MIGHT be what is called a cellule de synthèse, the team of people on a construction site in charge of making sure all the different contractors involved work together smoothly and harmoniously, that one doesn't put a drain pipe precisely where a lift shaft will subsequently be, etc.

It can also be called a "clash-detection unit".
