French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Environment & Ecology / water industry (drinking) | | French term or phrase: Bassin d'Alimentation des Captages (BAC) | French has a nice concise acronym for this, as shown above, but I don't think there is an English equivalent.
As far as I understand it, the BAC is the area (i.e. a basin) which feeds or supplies the 'catchment'.
Can anyone suggest a concise way of translating this term, as I have it appearing all through a document, so I need it to be as concise as possible. Here are a few examples of how it appears:
At other times, it appears simply as 'bassin d'alimentation'.
I would be most grateful for useful suggestions.
Thanks.

| | groundwater/aquifer recharge catchment | Explanation: First off, it appears that the BAC is not a "basin" in the sense of a tank or reservoir, but "bassin" in the the sense of "catchment", i.e. what I have always known as "zone d'épandage" = Infiltration area, i.e. a protected (pollution free) area in which water is allowed to seep into the ground. Given that confusion with "plaine d'épandage" and, thence, "plaine d'inondation" (which CAN be a "zone d'épandage") is possible, it makes a great deal of sense to have invented a new term.
Hence terms like "infiltration basin" and "groundwater recharge basin", which do exist, are not appropriate since they (particularly the first) refer to "structures" or at the very least man-made depressions rather than the natural ground.
