Explanation:
I think, since there is equipment out there which is designed to scare away or repel mosquitos, and I have seen these called scares before, it is possible this text is referring to this equipment.

This fits with the original sentence which describes that in the case of scares, the customer has already bought the product...

...and could fit with the contextual sentence given, if the team of pest control staff were being sent to clear mosquitoes out of this equipment.
