From a shareholder resolution discussing when and whether preference shares will be entitled to a dividend. The sentence reads:

Au titre de l’exercice 2009, le dividende préférentiel sera versé aux porteurs d’actions de préférence dans les conditions précisées dans les Statuts, c’est-à-dire sous réserve de l’existence de sommes distribuables suffisantes, de la décision de l’Assemblée générale ordinaire de voter un dividende ordinaire et le dividende préférentiel et de l’absence d’Evénement prudentiel (défini dans les Statuts).

I gather this is something like a 'Significant Event,' but I'm not sure how the 'prudentiel' colors that. Aucune idée? Thanks!

This term is used sometimes with preferred stock in the US. It means that the company reserves the right not to pay the dividend if there is a serious adverse event which would make it imprudent to pay the dividend because the company needed the capital.
