Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / Mutual funds
French term or phrase: OPC actions
(or OPC d'actions)

Expérience et capacités dans la sélection et l’allocation d’OPC actions (y compris fonds thématiques)

Ce lot concerne la gestion active d’un ou plusieurs mandats qui investiront à titre principal dans des OPC « actions » conformes aux normes européennes.

These two sentences are taken from a restricted tendering procedure document, outlining the criteria upon which potential tenderers (financial services providers) will be assessed.

I understand that there are different types of mutual funds, and this one clearly involves investing in shares, but I have been unable to find a direct UK English equivalent term. Can anyone help?

UCITs shares

Explanation:
OPC stands for Organismes de Placement Collectif and is generic term that covers OPCVMs, Organismes de Placement Collectif en Valeurs Mobilières. The equivalent for these mutual funds is the Undertaking for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITs) which are collective investments (or investment funds) that allow financial institutions to operate freely throughout the European Union on the basis of a single authorisation from one member state. Hence UCITs shares.

disagree  rkillings: Fundamental mistake. OPCVM is UCITS. OPC is CIS (collective investment scheme), an umbrella category that includes funds that *do not meet* UCITS requirements./ The English term is CIS, not UCI, and here it's an equity non-UCITS, not units/shares thereof.

-> Hi rkillings, quite right about my conclusion. Your comment "In practice, when you see OPC rather than OPCVM...non-UCITS are ...included" is a neat summary. So OPCVMs are a form of OPC. Hence French2English's answer is UCI units or stock per Albert Golub

equity CIS

Explanation:
CIS = Collective Investment Scheme. The category includes the tightly regulated UCITS and the more lightly regulated "non-UCITS". The EU has standards for both.

In practice, when you see OPC rather than OPCVM, you can assume that non-UCITS are purposely included.

You could substitute 'non-UCITS', but the initialism CIS is commonly used by the FSA in the UK.

See here, for example: http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/consumerinformation/product_news...

Note that the U in UCIS stands for 'unregulated', which is not the category of the asker's term.
