disagree  Laurel Clausen: The CFE is the new name for the "taxe professionnelle". Although it is linked to property value, it is not a property tax (which, in English, entails ownership). For example, as a freelancer working out of my rented apartment, I was subject to this tax.

La taxe professionnelle a été supprimée depuis le 1er janvier 2010 et remplacée par la contribution économique territoriale (CET) qui est composée :
- de la cotisation foncière des entreprises (CFE) qui reprend une grande partie des dispositions qui étaient applicables jusqu'à maintenant à la taxe professionnelle,
- et, de la cotisation sur la valeur ajoutée des entreprises (CVAE) qui remplace la cotisation minimale de taxe professionnelle.

La CFE est calculée sur la valeur locative des biens immobiliers passibles de la taxe foncière, utilisés par l'entreprise pour les besoins de son activité au cours de la période de référence (année n - 2).
La valeur locative correspond au montant retenu par l'administration fiscale pour le calcul de la taxe foncière.
