Fisheries / fishing
French term or phrase: pêche à gratter
I can't find the exact translation for this term. I think it's related to bass fishing, and I have found the terms light fishing, street fishing and rock fishing, but don't think any of these is right.
The sentence is:
Leurre souple Swimmer Minnow, idéal pour la peche à la volée ou à gratter.

bottom trawling

Explanation:
I am not 100% sure but fairly certain that they mean "bottom trawling" - the French explained by the fact that the net "scratches along the bottom of the seabed".
Does this fit in with your context?

Asker: Thanks for this suggestion, but I in this context it's just individual anglers with small soft lures, and bottom trawling applies to commercial fishing only I think

neutral  liz askew: I thought this type of fishing was controversial as it destroys the bottom of the seabed...I didn't know "they" were still allowed to do this:)

you are not going to believe it, but I believe they call it "bottom scratching".

Fishing for smallmouths with live crayfish, especially the soft-shelled variety, is particularly popular among bait anglers. Another good natural bait is a nightcrawler. Live crayfish and worms can be worked behind various bottom-bouncing rigs in flowing water, and on floats in stillwater.

Crayfish-imitating crankbaits are a popular river and lake lure for smallmouths. These look and act a bit like a crayfish, and can be productive all season if smallmouths aren’t too deep; they are especially worthwhile in the spring. Bottom scratching is critical most of the time with these. Another good smallmouth lure is a floating/diving plug, worked by twitching it on the surface or by a stop-and-go underwater retrieve.

Bottom-walked

Explanation:
"Whether twitched on the top as a surface bait, retrieved as a shallow runner, weighted with a split-shot for medium depths or bottom walked off a sinker rig, the wounded minnow action continues to be irresistible to game fish of many varieties."

I do like bottom-scratching though!! Although not sure I would use it!

I also think the action is referred to as 'walking the dog'.

trolling

Explanation:
I've used spinners to fish bass and 'trolling' was dragging the spinner along/near the seabed for a while. This might fit.
Just a suggestion though.
