French term or phrase:blanchisserie
I know this term generally means laundry, but what does it mean in the agro-food industry context?
The context is a list of potential polluters:
(industrie de la viande, laiterie, fromagerie, distillerie, brasserie, conserverie, BLANCHISSERIE, sucrerie)
A separate list of industries (papeterie, siderurgie, textile et petrochimie) follows, so I'm assuming blanchisserie in this context has something to do with food processing (blanching?) and not laundry.
Explanation: Remember that the agrifoods industry, like the hospital industry and the nuclear industry, is a big consumer of laundry services, and large food-processing facilities might have their own laundries, just as nuclear power plants might have their own.

I should think any food bleaching/blanching activity would come under conserverie.
I guess laundry is what's meant, given your explanation, plus hooksett pointing out that the entire list consists of stand-alone businesses, thanks! 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Looking at the list you supplied, I am not entirely convinced that this is something other than "laundry/dry cleaner." All the other items in that part of the list are stand-alone businesses. I spent many years in the food and meat industry, and I have never encountered a stand-alone business that only blanches food.

blanching
Explanation: Blanching is a controlled heating process similar to pasteurization and it is used in the processing of fruit juices, fruits and green vegetables (BAT in the Food, Drink and Milk Industries, June 2005).

bleaching
Explanation: Whilst I think Kashew's answer is perfectly feasible, I also wondered about bleaching in the sense of bleaching flour, etc. No evidence to back this up, just a thought!

BLANCHING
Explanation: AS I AGREED WITH KASHEW, moreover le blanchissage is also the refining of sugar, and it is used when one cooks vegetables BEFORE one does the specific preparation, e.g. cooking endives or beans or peas, etc., before really 'cooking' them. It is also used for fruit and for meat and fich...

The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to.
The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability.
Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together.
