Just saw that this was about cakes, so this suggestion might be a bit clinical in the context, though I think it is about the adhesive qualities of sugar all the same. It would help to give more context when posting the question.

Asker: Noting so technical - as I said in my original posting, this is in connection with the food industry, cakes etc

Mounting Bracket - A bracket used to mount the slide to the back of the cabinet if the slides cannot be mounted to the side of the cabinet. Used when you have framed cabinets instead of frameless.

"à sec" generally means "dry" after the noun. For example, "nettoyage à sec" = dry cleaning.

However, I am unsure whether or not it is redundant in this context. Hence, my reason for putting dry in brackets before the noun.

Asker: Sorry but I think you are on the wrong track here. I know that a support is usually to do with shelves, etc but in this case we are talking cakes and confectionery! I think it means applying a sugar coating directly to the cake without any liquid to help it stick

Asker: I should have thought the word 'sugar' was quite a big hint....

Asker: Context: Perlosuc 30: Les grains sont obtenus par moulage à très haute pression de lingots de sucre cristal.
