English translation:chaise-longue
Explanation:
The types I've encountered very much reseemble this sort of thing; though I freely acknowledge that this is a term more usually applied to period rather than contemporary furniture.

While thanking all the peers who've kindly added their 'agrees' below, I would just like to add that, although I do believe chaise-longue is a viable option for a méridienne as a stand-alone item of furniture, one ought to take note of Gail B's point, that this appears to be referring in fact to sofas, and the 'méridienne' part of these — a sort of 'lounger' stuck on the end, making it a 'not-quite-a-corner' sofa. I'm not convinced that 'chaise-longue' would actually be appropriate for describing this sub-element of a complete sofa.

Here's a typical example of a canapé + méridienne — note that it's not quite a corner sofa, as it only has an end arm, and not a proper back:

meridienne

Explanation:
It's the same word :

English :meridienne
French : méridienne n. f.

Définition :
The day-bed or couch, designed in the antique style was an extremely fashionable piece of Empire furniture. Especially characteristic was the day-bed having two gracefully outscrolled ends which were either of equal or unequal height and the méridienne having outscrolled ends of unequal height designed with a back panel.

sofas and corner sofas

Explanation:
Just a suggestion: a méridienne can be, as Tony rightly says, a chaise-longue when it's a standalone item of furniture, often in plush velvet with curvy lines. But it can also refer to the left- or right-hand sofa sections that you can buy separately to create corner sofa units (canapés d'angle). Without an image or further description, it's hard to tell. Since the text says 'canapés et leurs méridiennes' I wondered whether it referred to this instead.

neutral  Tony M: But the 'méridienne' is really just one element of the sofa — the bit that sticks out you can lounge on.

-> Exactly. This is why I've suggested it, as we can't be sure the text in question refers to a standalone chaise-longue.

agree  gallagy2: according to 1 of CC's links, a meridienne "is a cross between a sofa and a chaise longue", but this is really what I'd call this piece

agree  philgoddard: It always drives me mad when I see it spelled 'chaise lounge' in the US, but it's so widely used that we just have to grin and bear it.
