Re: chopping block/butcher block – These terms have become fairly interchangeable, and I think the same is true for "billot de découpe/boucher"
And some people refer to tables with chopping/butcher block tops as chopping/butcher blocks. Perhaps sloppy, but it's done.
And one joke in Manhattan is that people renovate their kitchens and then eat out or order in.

you have the name of this manufacturer and can Google Image Search to see what exactly these things are. Traditionally they would have been butcher's blocks or chopping blocks, which is an item of furniture, though not something you might put in your living room. These days, though, it has become popular to have a hefty bit of wood shaped to fit over your kitchen worktop and on which you cut up your meat (I ask you, as if anyone cuts up meat these days!) with your fancy designer monobloc knives.
