French term or phrase: jouer a la taille
A jeu qui consiste a toucher l'autre pour lui donner la "taille" pour ensuite s'enfuir afin ne pas la recevoir a nouveau
adverbum
United States
playing tig/tag
Explanation:
Playing "tig" or "tag" (an English game for children). The verb would be "to tig/tag" (I believe the two are interchangeable - in my region of England we say "tig" but I know in other areas "tag" is preferred). The above text could thus be rendered as:
the (sic) game consists in "tigging/tagging" the other person by touching them, whilst avoiding at the same time being tigged/tagged back"

n.b. tig is usually rendered as \"jeu du chat\" in French. Nevertheless I believe it is clearly this which is being referred to in the text.
