French term or phrase: phoque oeuf
Tu savais que les phoques pondaient des oeufs, toi ? Quelqu'un a écrit "phoque oeuf" sur un mur là-bas.

This is a joke told by one of the gang of friends to his mates. Any suitable jokes in English that spring to mind would be very welcome. Probably something slightly less rude for the more prudish Anglo-Saxon audience! They're presumably in pointing to a wall so I need to keep the grafitti image. Thanks so much in advance!!

Clarification request(s) and response
David Goward: 12:24pm Jun 13, 2007: I really think you need to know whether the actual grafitti is visible, Mari.
Emma Paulay: 12:37pm Jun 13, 2007: You also need to know whether it's written in EN and he doesn't know how to pronounce it or whether the graffiti is a joke in itself. I think it's probably the latter but it's best to be sure.
Emma_C: 2:28pm Jun 13, 2007: You also need to know whether any seals and or eggs are in the picture as this will limit (or expand) your translation possibilities...
juliebarba: 3:00pm Jun 13, 2007: Deary me, you've got trouble on your hands here Mari!! I'd ask for permission to replace it with some dumb 'why did the chicken cross the road' jokes or something.....with a bit of rudeness to appeal to the kids...

How about something around 'un oeuf is un oeuf'

Explanation:
as in 'enough is enough'. cela maintient le clin d'oeuil au Francais

You've already worked out that you will have to completely change the joke so this is just one idea

Explanation:
As is 'sea legs', this isn't quite a joke as such though, but you could play with it...

fils de pute/Phil's deputy

Explanation:
The thing is, in the original version the French kids using this video game won't necessarily get the phoque off joke, whether they can see the writing on the wall, in EN or FR, or not. There are often jokes in Titeuf, or Astérix that are aimed at older children or adults. Anyway, this suggestion is rather far-fetched, but I think you could put a FR graffiti that the kids wouldn't understand and would interpret in EN.

Look at that - gold stars for grafitti

Explanation:
Bit of a long shot, but I'm presuming here that the graphics show "F*** off" scrawled on a wall...

ball ox / bull ox

Explanation:
Are you looking for something in British english?

"ball ox" or "bull ox" for "bollocks".... or is that too rude??

You could write something like "Did you know there are bulls and oxen in the neighbourhood? Someone wrote "bull ox" on the wall there."

Or maybe something with ball... but be careful there! :-)
