French term or phrase:enregistrée
"Par lettre du 20 juillet 2007 (enregistree le 27 juillet 2007) vous m'avez adressé...."
This is in response to a letter that was sent by registered mail. I'm assuming that the "enregistrée" here refers to the day the letter was received and signed for? Or is it a letter that was authored on 20 July, but not registered for posting until the 27th?
Thanks in advance.
A common practice indeed, but if the person writing the letter referred to the post office date stamp, I think he would chose another expression like "cachet de la poste du 27", "postée le 27" or "expédiée le 27" to avoid this kind of confusion.
it does sound like 'logged, recorded' etc although I'd be tempted to think that it refers to the post office date stamp. In other words the authors dated it with one date and sent it on another - a common practice!
