French term or phrase: fort et fier de son histoire
Hi

For some brand blurb:

"Fort et fier de son histoire, X s'impose toujours comme...."

I can only think of solutions that require two prepositions, along the lines of "Encouraged by and proud of..."

A neater alternative would be much appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

English translation:prides itself on its winning culture
Explanation:
I know, I know - it's somewhat of a shift. I searched " company prides itself on", came across this phrase and rather liked it!

The French neatly says "on the strength of its past" and, "proud of its past".

Other ideas:
"proudly upholds its long-standing traditions"
"prides itself on its solid background"
"prides itself on its successful past"

Sorry for the late grading! I went for something like "Building proudly on its history..." Emma's proudly put me on the track. Thank you Emma and everyone who helped with ideas.

Confident and proud of its past

Explanation:
Just an idea - makes use of "of" possible for both adjectives.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Estelle - I'm not sure one can say "confident of." I like "past" as an alternative to "history" though!

fiercely proud of its history

Explanation:
Instead of using two adjectives (strong and proud), why not use an adverb followed by an adjective (fiercely proud)? I think that this solution works really well IMHO. Just a suggestion though to the many alternatives.

proud of its past as it speaks for itself

Explanation:
Hello,

It's the "fort" that's hard to translate here.

fort de = strong with = you have your past which speaks for itself (to back you up)

I hope this helps.

disagree  Chris Hall: IMHO, the answer needs to be much more concise and to the point than this - this suggestion is far too wordy.

-> Well, you could be neutral here. I don't think there's a strong case to disagree here (I do like my translation a lot, by the way lol). I don't think any of the other answers has really captured the meaning of "fort" well. Have a good weekend.

disagree  philgoddard: You've also misunderstood "fort" - it refers to the brand, not the history. And there's nothing wrong with disagreeing - it's not an insult or anything!

-> I don't understand your disagree comment, either. Did I say that there was anything wrong with disagreeing? I just don't get the disagrees in this case. Have a good day. If I am "fort de mon histoire", it means that my past backs me up. It's that simple.
