... Elle eclate de rire, elle s'appelle Marlene, elle va me donner une douche parce que je sens le bon fromage mais elle n'est pas trop fromage en voyage.
Est-ce que le mot 'fromage' a aucun sens homonymique?
Still, in France there is a strong association between the smell of cheese and that of la petite fille qui se néglige ... Do we know why she smells of cheese? Has she been visiting a cheeseworks? Otherwise "fish" might work better in English (?).
fromage en voyage is NOT cheese that has travelled - I suspect he is smelly (think feet or armpits) because he has been travelling and she is not into that 'ripe' smell
I agree with Bourth: given that cheese tends not to travel well, I'm rather inclined to think it is indeed 'fromage en voyage' ('travel cheese' ? or 'well-travelled cheese'??).
I so well remember the Pont l'Évèque that my naïvely optimistic sister brought home from Normandy one hot Summer back in the mid-60's... I can still smell it now, lingering eternally in my nostrils...
Given that SHE is giving him the shower, I suspect Tony is on the right track. The question is also is it she that is "en voyage" or he, "the cheese"? (elle n'est pas trop "fromage en voyage"), said possibly largely gratuitously for the rhymely.
because he smells 'ripe' (like cheese - think camembert or munster) - on face value the rest means that she only likes cheese as a foodstuff, not instead of soap and water and cleanliness
