French term or phrase: découvrir quelques pages de l'histoire
La côte ouest est principalement faite de plages de sable doré ou noir. XXXet les XXXXXXX offrent de belles plages et d'excellentes vagues pour les surfeurs. Plus loin, se trouve le lagon (le mieux préservé de l'île) et la plage xxxx.

Mais l'ouest permet aussi de découvrir quelques pages de l'histoire du pays : la chapelle, le musée um agricole et industriel et le Conservatoire botanique, qui protège les plantes rares et menacées.

bring to life the history of the area

Explanation:
I find often with tourist texts you cannot translate literally, French tends to be more poetic than English. Here you could change the sentence around and say something like: "In the west, the chapel, museum, etc. bring to life the history of the area..."

-> Well, I suppose when you read a history book it helps you experience history, it brings the history to life. When you visit historical sites history is also brought to life!
