agree  Tony M: I do agree in principle, but would just like to remind us all that 'surveillance' is often used with a rather more restrictive meaning in EN than in FR. For example, the police having a known drug dealer 'under surveillance'

disagree  Tony M: I'm not sure this is the right kind of 'télé-' here — I suspect this is simply 'remote' (whereas in fact just video surveillance might be 'local' anyway)

disagree  Tony M: Although video potentially might be implemented in a 'télésurveillance' system, I don't believe that's fundamentally what it means, and to translate it thus without proper confirmation would amount to a translation error.

Reference information:
Here is a website offering a télésurveillance service, which explains in detail what it is:

http://www.ca-centrefrance.fr/assurance-des-biens/telesurvei...

Note that there is no mention of video, which would be far too costly to implement on a continuous monitoring basis in most applications.
