French to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Geography / maps | | French term or phrase: grands ensembles du relief (de la Terre) | This is the title of a map in a highschool textbook. I'm wondering if simply "Physical Map of the World" will do, or if there is a more technical term for "grands ensembles". I've been wallowing in maps and atlases, and can't find an equivalent.
Many thanks to any geography buffs out there :-) |

La masse compacte de ce continent s'articule sur deux grands ensembles qui déterminent sa morphologie: au centre, le «bouclier de l'Angara», socle massif archéen; au Sud la chaîne de l'Himalaya.
Makes it sound like a land mass can have several "grands ensembles"...

| Note from asker to answererWhile I think technically "regions" is correct for grands ensembles, points go to Sue for the most helpful answer. In the end, this is what I used for the title of the map. I felt the French title didn't accurately reflect grands ensembles", since the legend included smaller, very specific things like lakes, small island groupings, capes, etc. A more general title was more appropriate.
I have entered the correct term for the glossary, however.
Many thanks to all! 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
