Geography | | French term or phrase: Damounais | | From my own googling a Damounais seems to be someone from Château-d'Oex in Switzerland (or at least, someone from C-d'O is a Damounais, if you see what I mean). Can anyone confirm this / provide an explanation? Sorry if there's a simple explanation, but attempts to search for likely words for the local region/commune etc such as 'Damoun' have been fruitless. |

Après avoir traversé le canton de Fribourg ou franchi le col des Mosses, ou encore passé chez nos voisins bernois, vous déboucherez dans notre vallée, qui suit le tracé de la Sarine.
Dans les villages et les hameaux qui se cachent au long de ses nombreux méandres, vous découvrirez de beaux paysages, des coins accueillants et des habitants : hommes et femmes actifs, ***les Damounais, c’est à dire les gens d’amont***, toute une vie réelle, ne se résumant pas à un folklore ou à une légende.
Situé dans les Préalpes vaudoises, à 1'000 m. d’altitude environ, le district, comptant 4'500 habitants, est divisé en trois communes, avec une dizaine de villages. Château-d’Oex, la « capitale », est la plus grande commune territoriale du canton, avec une superficie de 11'374 ha. Malgré la grande surface de notre vallée, la densité est seulement de 4 habitants par hectare, le terrain étant essentiellement constitué d’alpages, de forêts et de rochers.

At 9.30 p.m. the group was welcomed by a crowd (among others) of damounais. The jodel opened, followed by one tam-tam , then the second one, the cowbells introducing the definite rhythm, sustained by the bass guitaar: a curious cross section of world music… as the concert progressed and the musicians' confidence increeased, the unbelievable combination of instruments revealed itself to be a huge success

La nomination des rues et la numérotation des bâtiments de Château-d’Œx ne sont pas pour demain. Jeudi, le Conseil communal (équivalent de notre Conseil général) damounais a renvoyé le projet à l’Exécutif, qui devra représenter une mouture plus détaillée

Using the same source as the two previous answerers, if you read the text closely, you will see that the term Damounais is used to describe the populations of teh three communes.
Stick to the same term and describe in a suitable way what it means, brackets, footnote etc...
