Tony, the appendix deals with the problems which have arisen in the modern world beccause of the rise of and clashes between different religious and secular cultures. Discussion includes secularisation vs the renaissance of religion, new cults and practices, fundamentalism, violence in the name of religion, etc. So perhaps "overall problems" fits the bill. My problem is that this is being done in rather a rush (surprise, surprise) which does not leave me enough time to read the chapters in question to get a better idea of what it is all about.

It would probably help to know a bit more of what this 'appendix' is all about? I think that is likely to give a clue as to a more apposite translation....
