I don't seem to be able to find anything that explains the meaning of "cornu" in this context. "Horned flint" certainly doesn't seem to be on the right lines!

Having had more time to look it up, it's definitely not hornfels as I first thought, but hornstein, though hornstone (as suggested by Christoph) is an alternative.
