Science - Geology | | French term or phrase: silex cornus | In a list of strata in a geological report.
I don't seem to be able to find anything that explains the meaning of "cornu" in this context. "Horned flint" certainly doesn't seem to be on the right lines!

A kind of chert.
Having had more time to look it up, it's definitely not hornfels as I first thought, but hornstein, though hornstone (as suggested by Christoph) is an alternative.
