French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Geology / geotechnical
French term or phrase: Mises à jour de fondation
My document is about damage to a property following a burst water mains. Part of the document contains descriptions of and results from various geotechnical surveys carried out around the property. There are maps of the property and surrounding land some of which have the labels "MAJ1" and "MAJ2" on them marking where these "mises à jour de fondation" were carried out. No explanation is provided in my document but I found an explanation and picture on the web:
"Dans le cadre d'expertises sur des bâtiments sinistrés GEHYGEO execute des mises à jour de fondation afin de vérifier : * Le mode de fondation
* La profondeur d'assise
* et effectue des prélèvements sous la fondation pour essais par notre laboratoire"
http://www.gehygeo.fr/fr/geotechnique.htm

I therefore don't believe that the usual "updates" is appropriate for "mises à jour"

Explanation:
In this case I think they are planning to uncover the foundations in order to check the situation.
You can see a 'mise a jour de fondation' on You Tube where a digger is digging up the foundations of a building.

Where I could I turned the phrase around so I could use the verb "oncover", elsewhere I used "uncovering of the foundations". "Excavation/s" was also a good suggestion.

foundation update/review

Explanation:
It could be "update" if we assume that the situation has changed since the previous assessment of the situation, which might indeed be the case - the major part of any movement would probably have occurred at or around the time the water pipe burst, but it would have taken a long time before the situation stablized entirely.

If it can be assumed that the situation is stable but that it was required to reexamine the previous assessment, or take the investigation deeper or further afield, then "review" might be appropriate.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Review might work, although I remain a bit unsure about update. Another example from my text: "Une série d’essais en laboratoire d’identification des sols a été réalisée sur un échantillon de sol prélevé en MAJ1 à 0.80 de profondeur / TN." MAJ1 = mise à jour 1

Asker: I like this option as I do think that is what they are doing "uncovering of foundations" - I looked here too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpWzZ29Dwl4
