agree Patrick McKeown: but would we actually write "since the assasination of the late President"? Is it not a bit redundant, like saying he was "killed" when he was already dead? Just a late night thought ...Add: you're quite right! Mine was a very late night thought (2.48 am

agree writeaway: isn't it normally 'du feu', not 'de feu'. fully agree with Patrick-was about to make the same remark about being redundant. is like saying the assassinated dead pres. assassinated former would be better (but that's not what it says in French, do agree).
